Similar to health & fitness apps, language learning apps typically get a strong bump upon entering a new year. This morning I was looking for something to put in this section when I opened up my market for top language learning apps and saw it was having its best January ever. But drilling down, I realized this wasn't true. Once I charted each player against each other, I quickly realized this was almost solely being supported by Duolingo. In fact, only two other language learning apps (Speakly and Beelinguapp) grew year-over-year in the month of January.
Where is the love?
Another interesting trend is the downfall of wedding apps in the United States. The wedding apps we're looking at are planning and guest information apps like Zola and The Knot. Look, obviously the pandemic had a massive impact on weddings but they didn't bounce back in the summer like other event apps did (Ticketmaster) and they were already trending downward before 90% of the population even knew what a coronavirus was. I'm not complaining though, while weddings can be fun in the right scenario, they can also be awful drains of time, money and energy.
