Whatnot is a live stream shopping app focused on collectors and enthusiasts. Its market share of mobile app MAUs has grown significantly since March, now owning 67% of the market (not including YouTube or TikTok). In March, it's likely the app increased spending on digital ads to boost installs. Whatnot is the most heavily funded live shopping app, having raised $485M in total, including $260M earlier this month. Also working in its favor is its frequent cadence of updates, averaging an update every 6 days. This is more than any of its competitors; updates help to keep users happy and retain them, constantly working out new bugs that arise and generally making the shopping and selling experience better.
Starbucks is selling its drinks 50% off every Tuesday in July for rewards members. Getting new rewards members should easily offset the cost of the promotion as rewards member numbers correlate strongly with Starbucks revenue. The promo turned around five consecutive months of falling daily active user numbers. In July, DAUs are up 19% YoY. The app even hit an all-time high for DAUs just yesterday. Also potentially tied into this surge is that in June, Starbucks started paying to rank for keywords related to McDonald's, such as “macdonald”, “mcdonald’s”, “happy meal”, “mcdonalds”, and “donalds."
McDonald's leads all Food & Drink apps in new installs for the first half of the year by a healthy margin, beating out its top contender in Uber Eats by 70%.
