MUSINGS
You can probably call it a comeback
Vacation cruising has been here for years. Interest in the top 5 cruise lines has been steadily rising over the past 90 days. Just yesterday, Carnival announced its "booking volumes for all future cruises during the second quarter of 2021 were 45% higher than booking volumes during the first quarter of 2021." Not all of the bookings are for this summer as the CDC only very recently approved the first passenger cruise to depart from the US. Even with the gains seen in the graphic below, DAUs for the grouping are still 82% below that of its high in January 2020.

There's a lot of talk about countries requiring or not requiring "vaccine passports." The below apps provide digital proof of identity and select health records. The vast majority of countries are not requiring people to be vaccinated for them to visit, which is why uptake has been low. Where we see the most traction is with the NHS app out of the UK where it was announced in late April that it would be necessary for foreign travel. Kaya Yurieff, a reporter for The Information who pens a newsletter on this very subject, came on the show to explain what the creator economy is, how these creators are making money, the battle for talent that major platforms like TikTok and YouTube are engaged and more. To cap off the show, we get Kaya's take on a few fast growing platforms in an under the radar pocket of the creator economy that Apptopia's data picked up on.
