The unicorn with an app we didn't know about

OnlyFans is trying to raise money right now at a valuation of $1B. Its mobile app launched in August 2020 but nobody knew about it. The app almost never had enough downloads or users to rank on the app stores until OnlyFans announced and promoted the app earlier this week. It's able to be on the app stores because it doesn't allow for nudity and payments are not accepted through it. The app, called OFTV, is used for fan engagement and we have to remember that not all creators on the platform are sex workers. So far, the US only accounts for 10% of its downloads. Mexico is leading the way with 52.5%, followed by Colombia at 14.6%.

Yak to the future

Yik Yak, an anonymous chat app, has relaunched.  While the app was a hit when it was around in 2013-2017, it shut down due to bullying, abuse and bomb threats. Most anonymous chat apps do not last long because people either get bored of them or bullying becomes a massive issue. Recently, apps like YOLO and LMK managed to stay around thanks to their integration with Snapchat through the SDK, SnapKit. Even still, they were both were suspended a couple of week ago from using the SDK due to bullying. Yik Yak is back and will try to avoid the obvious pitfalls. So far, it does not have SnapKit installed but this could be a boost for the app's popularity as its previous user base who knew and loved the app may not be the right fit anymore. The app is only available on iOS and live in the US right now.
