Weak sauce

Earlier this week, Electronic Arts announced it will be shutting down its Apex Legends mobile game due to it falling short in the "quality" department. Looking at Review Intelligence, we see the word "bug" was the #3 keyword used in app reviews and "Performance & Bugs" was the top reason for leaving a review in the first place. So yea, there were some issues. The app has been installed 40.4M times and generated $22.3M since launch in late April 2022. Performance started dropping not long after launch and never recovered.

Rewarding results

My Bath & Body Works launched an app in 2017 but only recently decided to test out this whole loyalty thing. It found that loyalty customers had higher spend and retention rates than an average customer. I could have saved them the test and just told them that but hey, they got message on their own time. Members earn points with every purchase, get early access to events and new fragrance launches, a birthday gift, sneak peeks at product drops, and first access to limited product offerings. The chain's customers are pumped about the program. "Reward" has been the most used keyword in app reviews since its launch. Now that the company is getting absolutely loaded on app users, it can push more targeted (higher converting) offers to these users and generate more revenue from them.

How investing app Public.com is shifting strategies to acquire users in a down market

Rockford Yapp is the VP of Acquisition at Public.com, an investing app where you can invest in "everything." Still, most people use it for trading stocks which are on a downward trajectory right now, making user acquisition a challenge. Rockford says while there are headwinds and "doom and gloom" seem to be everywhere, it's presented him the opportunity to shift strategies and the audiences he's targeting.
