Business
Mobile Signal
Yum! Brands (YUM) is scheduled to report Q1 earnings on 4/28. New installs across its portfolio of mobile apps are up 4% YoY but down 12.5% QoQ.
App Acquisitions
Pine Labs has acquired Fave, a payment app based in Southeast Asia with benefits such as discounts and rewards. The app, which launched in 2016, currently has around 300k monthly active users.

Icon Fitness produces several lines of exercise: NordicTrack, ProForm and Freemotion. It also publishes the iFit app which connects to these devices just like the Peloton app connects with Peloton's exercise equipment. Judging by the data, it looks like all that motivational talk from Peloton instructors has been rubbing off on the Icon Fitness management team because they're hitting PRs left and right. Shoutout to Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby who talks to us like we're all a 35 year old divorced woman- and yet... somehow it works. Even though iFit's mobile app is growing faster by measures of user sessions and in-app purchase revenue, Peloton still owns a larger share of the market for both. Sessions are pictured below (it did get close in Q3 2020) but Peloton thoroughly dominates IAP revenue.
Back in business
Even without the very recent and large surge of Ticketmaster downloads, ticketing apps as a whole have been slowly gaining ground since February. Between pent up energy, vaccinations and easing of restrictions, events are getting a much needed jolt of life. We're also seeing a rise in activity from salon booking apps, restaurant reservation apps, and other event-focused apps like Meetup and Eventbrite. Year-over-year numbers are still down... baby steps.

This week in a fun interview with Christoph Sachsenhausen, Managing Director at hypercasual gaming publisher Sunday, we discuss the ideation process of coming up with the next hit mobile game. Christoph wants you to know that even though everyone has a lot of ideas for a mobile game, it's actually really hard to make a game that is loved by million of people. Make sure you have some thick skin and come listen to what happens to games when they don't work out.
Last week, Coinbase (COIN) IPO’d. This highly anticipated event exceeded expectations, as Coinbase’s valuation reached over $80 billion after its first day of public trading. It also marked a turning point for cryptocurrency, which is now well on its way to wide acceptance.
