Fueling up on installs
According to Apptopia, gas apps, those from finders like GasBuddy and those from companies like Shell, have been increasing in downloads and usage since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. People are trying to either find the cheapest gas available or save money with apps like Cumberland Farms' SmartPay Rewards, which enables them to save 10cents off every gallon. Yesterday, both GetUpside (launch 2016) and Gas Guru (launch 2012) hit an all-time high for daily downloads.
Fintech Fiasco
For reasons that I am not well enough educated on to speak to, women are using today's biggest and hottest investment apps much less than men are, in the United States. The chart below shows the estimated percentage of active users that are female. There are a couple of apps close-ish to 50% (Aspiration and Stash), but only one app that is significantly over. Ellevest very clearly brands itself as a financial company for women, by women. Still, a number of men are interested in seeing what the app has to offer.

Apptopia is estimating that Taco Bell is currently averaging about 100,000 more daily active app users than it had been before the subscription launch.
Just like we see with Health & Fitness apps, there is a beginning of year boost for personal finance apps. The top 10 apps as a whole have averaged a 56% month-over-month gain in downloads from December to January over the past five years.
