App Acquisition
Emmy has acquired Felyx, an electric scooter ride sharing app in Germany. The app has been downloaded more than 2 million times since launch in September 2017.
Electronic Arts' acquisitions seem to be burning down the house, and not in a good way. Last week we showed downloads and IAP revenue plummeting for EA's Apex Legends, after news broke that EA was going to remove the game from the app stores. This caused us to evaluate other areas of the publisher's mobile business and what we found was depressing. Other parts of its mobile games business are doing well but maybe not well enough to offset these marquee downward slides.
Microsoft's Bing announced search powered by OpenAI (makers of ChatGPT) this past Tuesday. While not available to everyone yet, it sparked new installs of the Bing mobile app. The app launched in 2009 (I had no idea Bing has been around that long) but just had its largest day of downloads ever. While we expect installs to climb as more people gain access to the AI-powered search, it's largest day is still only 32% of Google Search's installs.
Rockford Yapp is the VP of Acquisition at Public.com, an investing app where you can invest in "everything." Still, most people use it for trading stocks which are on a downward trajectory right now, making user acquisition a challenge. Rockford says while there are headwinds and "doom and gloom" seem to be everywhere, it's presented him the opportunity to shift strategies and the audiences he's targeting.
