A new competitor is among us!

Wildlife Studios, maker of my favorite mobile tennis game, recently launched an online multiplayer social deduction game similar to Among Us!. Back in September 2020, Among Us! went on a domination tour of the top charts that lasted quite some time, aided by streamers and the realities of hanging our virtually during the pandemic. While Wildlife's game Suspects has yet to hit #1 in the US App Store or Google Play store, it has been able to pull in more daily downloads than its chief competitor lately. However, Among Us! is still much more popular from an active user perspective and generates much more IAP revenue.

Spring is in the air and in your palm

People need accessible hobbies in a pandemic. Turns out growing houseplants and gardens fits the mold. At the onset of the pandemic, we saw strong year-over-year growth for plant care apps (they also help ID plants in the wild or just in Home Depot if the label has fallen out) and we are seeing it again as we head into the warmer months for the United States. Yes, the US is the biggest market for these types of apps. As you can see below, one app is particularly successful; PictureThis averages about 71% of the market's downloads. Why? According to user reviews, it works very well and is easy to use. Identifying plants accurately based on amateur photos isn't the easiest thing to do. Additionally, according to our Apptopia's Search Analysis, it ranks #1 for "Plant Identifier" and #2 for other key terms like "seek" and "identify plants".
